The general relationship between the average mass transport rates and the moments of permeability was studied using various types of probability density functions and pseudo random-numbers to generate hypothetical permeability distributions. With these distributions, the average transport rates are obtained and described as the numerical impulse-response based on the advection-dispersion model for a two-dimensional region. The calculated results show that, for the dimensionless standard deviation up to around 1, the three moments are enough to characterize the permeability distribution for the purposes of the nuclide transport prediction.
