Abstract: The ultrasonic properties of amorphous TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofiber (ATOCN) were examined in terms of valence electron concentration (VEC) and real and complex elasticities. ATOCN, which locates to a point (VEC= 3.30, Tc = 439 K), is situated in the stable region for the formation of amorphous alloys, where Tc is the amorphous/crystal temperature. However, ATOCN with an acoustic anisotropy factor of 1, smaller Poisson’s ratio of 0.249, and lower G/K of 0.602 can be considered a metastable-like ceramic with elastically isotropy. The elasticity and viscoelasticity of ATOCN with small acoustic impedances is predominantly three-dimensional volumetric motion. Graphic abstract: [Figure not available: see fulltext.]
