抄録

Narrog, the author of "A Diachronic Dimension in Maps of Case Functions" (2010), replies to Sander Lestrade's "The Best of Two Maps" (2010), a commentary on his original article. Narrog agrees with Lestrade's point that it is not necessary that the representation of diachronic directionality and synchronic statistical information be mutually exclusive. Narrog does disagree with Lestrade's claims that "diachronic information is only informative when combined with statistical evaluation of the synchronic patterns it should explain" and that only relations between meanings or functions need diachronic explanations that are close to each other on an MDS map.
