The time division multiplexing (TDM) terabit/s single-channel transmission is studied, focusing on high transmissions 640 Gbit/s over 60 km and 320 Gbit/s over 120 km. The keys to the success of the TDM transmission are the generation of a 250 fs pulse train using a 10 GHz regeneratively mode-locked fiber laser and an adiabatic soliton pulse compressor with a dispersion-decreasing fiber (DDF), and demultiplexing with a walk-off free nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM). With these configurations, 640 Gbit/s signal over 60 km and 320 Gbit/s signal over 120 km are successfully transmitted.
