In the present work, we have examined poly(N-vinylcarbazole) film by using a time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopic method. Fluorescence spectra and their dynamic behavior were elucidated with streak camera, which makes it possible to measure dynamics just upon laser ablation. This fluorescence method reveals molecular and electronic aspects of laser ablation. While plasma-like emission and fluorescence behavior of ablated radicals have been reported, fluorescence dynamics of the polymer itself has been first considered in the present work. Effects of dopants such as electron as well as excitation energy acceptors, excitation wavelength, and laser pulse width will give a more detailed information on ablation mechanism and are being studied in this laboratory.
