Theoretical studies of microwave heating of dielectric liquid and magnetic crystal: Classical and quantum mechanical molecular dynamics simulations

Using classical and quantum mechanical molecular dynamics simulations, our recent studies of heating of water (dielectric liquid) and that of magnetite (magnetic crystal) by microwaves have been performed. In the former, the electric field energy of microwave is absorbed mostly by small-angle molecular rotation of water molecules - not by translational motion until evaporation. In the latter, the magnetic energy of microwave is absorbed by the response of electron spins in 3d orbital, which is maximized around the Curie temperature. Heating efficiency depends on the orientation of the microwave magnetic field and the presence of static magnetic field.
