抄録

Studies of deformed humic soil layers and faulted river terraces have been employed to reconstruct the prehistoric record of earthquake activity along the 80 km Atera Fault system which runs from Hagiwara Town in Gifu prefecture NE-SW into Nagano prefecture. The average rate of slip along this fault is 0.71 m per thousand years. The recurrence interval for an earthquake of magnitude 8 calculated by Matsuda's method is 1262-2103 yr. -M.J.Haigh
