Temperature programmed evolution of nitrogen retained on carbons at ambient temperature

In this study, N2 was retained on carbons by heating the sample up to 1273 K in He. A significant amount of N2 was trapped on some carbons at ambient temperature, and the rate of N2 uptake on phenol-formaldehyde (PF) char was quite slow. N2 could not be removed completely by purging with He flow. In some cases, the temperature of N2 evolution was as high as 650 K. This observation was attributed to the slow diffusion to and from narrow pores.
