Tem observation of domain wall pinning in a Ni2Mn(Al,Ga) ferromagnetic shape memory alloy

The effect of antiphase boundaries (APBs) on the magnetic domain structure and the magnetization process were investigated by using a Ni 2Mn(Al,Ga) alloy system, which is a type of ferromagnetic shape memory alloy. Lorentz microscopy and electron holography studies demonstrated that magnetic domain walls are strongly attracted by APBs. In situ observations of the magnetization process, which were performed by using a special sample holder with a small electromagnet, revealed the significant pinning effect of the domain wall motion in the parent phase.
