Nanoporous Au-Fe alloy was synthesized via a wet chemistry route using orderednanoporous silica as a hard template. The nanoporous Au-Fe consisted of aligned arrays of nanoporesthat were uniform in composition and ordered in hexagonal lattice, whereas Au-Fe nanoparticlessynthesized without templates exhibited broad dispersions in the chemical composition and/orparticle size. Nanoporous Au-Fe has potential for applications as catalysts and/or adsorbentsbecause of the large specific surface area of 81.2 m2·g1 and high pore volume of 0.56 cm3·g1.
