Synthesis and photoluminescence properties of CaSnO3:Pr3+ prepared through the amorphous metal complex method using a water-soluble Sn4+ complex

Pr3+-activated CaSnO3 (CaSnO3:Pr3+) was prepared herein through the amorphous metal complex (AMC) method using a stable water-soluble Sn4+ complex coordinated to lactic acid. The photoluminescence properties of CaSnO3:Pr3+ were found to be significantly sensitive for the small deviation of the Sn/(Ca ​+ ​Pr) ratio. The emission intensities of CaSnO3:Pr3+ with the Sn/(Ca ​+ ​Pr) ratios between 1.00 and 1.01 were relatively high, whereas the emission intensity remarkably decreased with the decreasing Sn/(Ca ​+ ​Pr) ratio from 1.00 to 0.98. The CaSnO3:Pr3+ prepared under the optimum condition through the AMC method showed a high emission intensity under UV irradiation, which was 1.9 times higher than that of CaSnO3:Pr3+ prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method.
