For fabrication of a large-bore, high-field magnet which achieves a low coil weight and volume, a high strength and current density, compound superconducting wire is required. For those demands an alumina-Cu reinforced Nb3Sn wire with 33 vol.% alumina-Cu alloy has been developed using the tube process. The reinforced composite wire was fabricated with good ductility. The reinforced wire has been studied for superconducting properties, mechanical properties and their related properties. As a result, it was found that the reinforced NbsSn wire had high yield strength, high tensile stress tolerance, and high transverse compressive stress tolerance, which were two times or three times as large as those of the conventional Cu matrix wire.
