Potassium uptake systems of plant cells evolved to perform specialized tasks. They must guarantee the uptake of K⁺ from the soil and its redistribution throughout the plant. This chapter summarizes the latest knowledge on structure-function correlates of plant K⁺ transporters and channels and discusses these in a physiological context.
