Spin states in a single InAs quantum dot molecule probed by single-electron tunneling spectroscopy

We perform single-dot spectroscopy using a sub-micron sized single-electron transistor containing just a few pairs of vertically coupled self-assembled InAs quantum dots. Using a position-sensitive single-electron tunneling spectroscopy technique, we distinguish a single pair of coupled dots, and clearly identify the electronic configuration in the molecular phase holding three and four electrons. We also estimate the electron g-factor by applying an in-plane magnetic field.
