Selective catalytic reduction of N2O with light alkanes over different Fe-zeolite catalysts

Fe ion-exchanged zeolite catalysts, where Fe-BEA was the most active, were used in the SCR of N2O with light alkanes (i.e., CH4, C2H6, and C3H8) even in the presence of excess oxygen. CH4 reacted selectively with N2O even in the presence of excess O2 (> 250°C: 4N2O + CH4 → 4N2 + CO2 + 2H2O), while the reaction of C2H6 and C3H8 with O2 was significantly enhanced by the presence of N2O. N2O played an important role in the activation of alkanes at an initial step. A mechanism in the SCR of N2O with light alkanes over Fe-BEA catalyst is proposed.
