Sealing properties of mechanical seal for ventricular assist device

抄録

(1) Mechanical seal for left ventricular assist device showed typical periodic friction jump under blood sealing condition. (2) Protein film formed onto sealing surfaces of mechanical seal caused high and periodic friction jump under blood sealing condition. (3) By measuring electric conductivity of circulated water, leakage of sealed fluid was detected. The leakage was measured to be one-fifth lower when blood was sealed compared to water sealing condition.
