Thin hard silica scale, which is left unremoved on the inner wall of a casing by drilling, was simulated by the use of a thin hollow cylinder of Kimachi sandstone with a thickness of 5 mm, which was glued to the inner wall of a steel pipe. To develop a method for scale-removal with pure waterjets underwater, we conducted laboratory experiments for the simulated specimen in which we examined both the rotational speed and scale-removal for commercially available self-rotating nozzle systems with low and high rotational speeds.
