Remote nondestructive evaluation of delaminating tiles by using photorefractive vibration imaging

Collapse of delaminated tiles on the wall of buildings causes serious problems and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods are demanded for it. We developed a new technique for the real-time imaging by using the photorefractive effect. Though the vibration amplitude was as small as 1.5nm in the frequency range of 1 to 100 kHz, and the laser power is low (4.2μW for the signal beam and 303μW for the reference beam), the vibration mode was imaged with the signal-to noise (S/N) ratio better than 10 in the short exposure time of 200 ms.
