Reduction enhancement of copper oxide during microwave heating

The authors investigated a reduction behavior of CuO during microwave (H-fields and E-fields) and conventional (electric furnace) heating to verify the non-thermal reduction enhancement by microwave effects. In the experiment, we heated a simple substance CuO in vacuum states and measured the quantity of emitted oxygen. Activation energy Ea by E-field heating was less than that by conventional one. Activation energy by H-field heating was also reduced to 1/3 compared to that by conventional one. The results suggest that it is possible that microwave energy converted directly to the reduction energy.
