Radiation therapy for biochemical failure after radical prostatectomy

We evaluated the results of salvage radiotherapy for biochemical failure after radical prostatectomy (RP) . From January 2001 to December 2005, 28 prostate cancer patients underwent salvage radiotherapy for biochemical failure after RP. Radiation dose was 60 Gy or 64 Gy. After radiotherapy, PSA were decreased in 27 of 28 patients, and 9 patients'PSA were increased again. 5-year biochemical failure rates were 55.7%. There was no significant difference between the radiation doses. There was no severe radiation related late toxicity. Our results suggest that salvage radiotherapy for biochemical failure after RP is effective, but further observation is necessary.
