A numerical method for predicting radiation heat transfer in absorbing, emitting and scattering media is presented. The participating media are composed of numerous polyhedrons, and the thermal conditions of each element are specified arbitrarily. Modeling of the radiation transfer is presented using a new concept of configuration factors, and the consistency of the model is investigated. A numerical method in a plane parallel system is presented for numerical analysis, and the accuracy is verified. An application of the present method is demonstrated for arbitrary thermal conditions.
