Neurologists play a central role in management of stroke patients. However, in Japan, the number of neurologists who are interested in stroke management is not sufficient. In this paper, to raise stroke-conscious neurologists, i.e., neurologists who willingly take care of stroke patients, the roles of undergraduate medical education and postgraduate neurological training are discussed. The key points in neurological education are that stroke provides the best source of brain diseases, symtomatology, and neuroimaging, the best material for understanding of evidence-based medicine, and the model of comprehensive continuous practice from neurological emergency to ne urorehabilitation.
