N2 - The status of the KamLAND experiment as of the date of the conference (June 2002) is presented. The KamLAND is a very long-baseline reactor ν̄e oscillation experiment. The sensitivity is Δm 2 > 10-5eV2 and sin2 2θ > 0.2, which covers large mixing angle (LMA) solution of the solar neutrino problem. The KamLAND experiment started data taking on January 2002 and has been taking data for 4.5 months. Currently, characterizing the detector is underway. The detector performance turns out to be good enough to do reactor neutrino physics. Clear ν̄e candidates have been recorded and some of them are demonstrated in the paper.
