Preparation and property of a nickel-phosphorus porous membrane using hydrogen-bonded fibrous molecular assemblage as a template

To prepare uniform hydrogen-bonded fibrous molecular assemblage having a diameter of 100 nm, we synthesized methyl-substituted azopyridine carboxylic acids with a different methylene spacer and compared their morphologies of fibrous molecular assemblages by SEM. Uniform molecular assemblages having a diameter of 110 nm could be prepared from the compound with a pentamethylene spacer by neutralization with an HCl aqueous solution. Using the uniform molecular assemblage as template, we proposed a novel method for fabricating a Ni-P porous membrane by electroless plating. To prepare a porous nickel oxide membrane, the nickel-phosphorus porous membrane was annealed under an air atmosphere. The physicochemical properties of Ni-P and NiO porous membranes such as morphology, crystallization, and surface area before and after annealing treatment were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM and N2 adsorption/desorption measurements.
