N2 - In this study, an attempt was made to demonstrate that the stomach wall can regenerate by the method of tissue engineering and that the regenerated wall has stomach mucosa. A canine model was used for this purpose. The anterior wall of the stomach was partially resected. The defect was patched by a collagen sponge sheet and it was covered with the omentum from serosa side. A silicone sheet sutured to protect the implanted collagen sheet from gastric acid was removed 4-6 weeks after operation. Regeneration of the stomach wall was recognized on the collagen sheet and the mucosa was regenerated over the suture line.
