Precipitation of nano-scale icosahedral quasicrystalline phase in Hf-Al-Ni-Cu metallic glass promoted by addition of Ti

抄録

The primary precipitation phase for the Hf62Al10Ni8Cu20 metallic glass is face centered cubic (FCC)-Hf2Ni and those for Hf57Al10Ni8Cu20Ti5 are FCC-Hf2Ni and I-phase. Addition of Ti to the Hf62Al10Ni8Cu20 alloy is essential for the formation of I-phase. Retardation of the precipitation of FCC-Hf2Ni in Hf62Al10Ni8Cu20 is considered as one of the reasons for the formation of I-phase caused by the addition of Ti. This effect is explained by considering the size mismatch between the constitute elements.
