Porous silicon as a template for silicate phosphor synthesis

We have succeeded to activate porous silicon layers by growing silicate phosphor particles in an oxidized porous silicon host. The method of impregnation is basically an immersion-heat treatment process. Efficient Blue, green and red luminescence has been observed from porous layers activated by Y2SiO5:Ce3+, Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ and Y2SiO5:Eu3+, respectively. The chromaticity coordinates of the prepared samples show that this choice of materials has a good coverage of colors, and can be used for display applications. This work introduces also the concept of "porous layers for display applications.".
