Insoluble hexacyanoferrate(I1)s are well known to have an extremely strong affinity for Cs+(1), and they have been studied mainly in connection with the removal of 137Cs from radioactive waste solutiond2). Potassium nickel hexacyanoferrate(I1)s (KNiFC) are readily obtained by precipitating Ni(N03)z with K4Fe(CN)6(3)(4), while they are composed of aggregates of very fine crystals and have insufficient mechanical stability during repeat sorption-desorption cycles. Several granulation methods have been proposed for modifying microcrystalline ferrocyanides into granular shape by freezing and thawing precipitated geld5), or by binding precipitate particles with insoluble polymers(6), while these procedures for preparation were rather complicated and results were often not reproducible.
