Two-dimensional band dispersion was studied by angle-resolved photoemission for a p(2×2)-Xe overlayer on Cr(110) with a Xe-Xe nearest-neighbor distance of 4.99 A, which is much larger than earlier reported values. The Xe 5p1/2 and 5p3/2 levels show 0.2 eV dispersion in good agreement with known theoretical results for the isolated layer, which confirms the theoretical prediction that the bandwidth is exponentially dependent on the interatomic spacing within the layer.
