Photo-induced polymerization and oxidation of C60 observed by photoelectron spectroscopy

抄録

It was found by photoelectron spectroscopy that C60 molecules undergo polymerization and oxidation upon ultraviolet light irradiation. It was observed that UV light is more effective than visible light in the photo-induced transformation, suggesting that the process is initiated by excitation of electrons beyond the energy gap between the HOMO and the LUMO bands of C60. It was also found that oxygen molecules absorbed in solid C60 play a key role in the photo-induced oxidation process.
