Hypereutectoid steel, eutectoid steel and hypoeutectoid steel were used. Heat transfer coefficients necessary for the analysis of heat transfer were obtained by analyzing the cooling curve of a copper disk. These values could be used for the prediction of cooling curves of stainless steel. In the case of carbon steels, the heat generation by phase transformation is accounted for in a one-dimensional heat conduction equation. The fractions of various phases such as austenite, martensite, bainite, ferrite and pearlite were estimated by use of a continuous cooling transformation diagram (CCT diagram).
