It is considered to use a device combining the pylon and the cavity for stabilization of the flame in the supersonic flow. This device is expected to control the flow field inside the cavity flameholder and continue combustion more effectively. Therefore, we intended to clarify the influence on the flow field of the position of the pylon installed at the front edge of the cavity. The wind tunnel experiment and numerical simulation under different the position of the pylon condition was performed. Pre-burned gas injection was used as the forced ignition method assuming at low total temperature of the mainstream. The gas was injected vertically from a hole locating cavity bottom. The results showed that the flow field in the cavity depends on the distance between the pylon and the jet. Ignition and flame holding of pre-burned gas is promoted when pylons are installed with a wide distance to the jet area. What the positional relationship between the pylon and the jet area influence the combustion can be a design guide for a cavity flameholder with pylons.
