Performance evaluation for the Electric Delta-V earth Gravity Assist (EDVEGA) scheme

The Electric Delta-V Earth Gravity Assist (EDVEGA) technique was proposed1 by the author. The application has so far focused, for the most part, the missions whose excess velocity is below 6 km/sec so that the Earth swingby deflects the velocity direction perpendicularly. This paper investigates the efficiency dependence on the swingby entry flight path angle and expands the applications with higher energy such as those to Jupiter and its beyond based on the analysis results. The main conclusion here reveals the EDVEGA is highly efficient for those high energy missions over the chemical and swingby-free electrical propulsion schemes.
