Plasma-deposited organic films prepared by radio frequency sputtering of amino acids, such as D-phenylalanine and D-glutamic acid, are basically composed of unit structures of the original amino acids. Moreover, static secondary ion mass spectroscopy suggests the formation of peptide bonds due to plasma reactions. These films have a hydrophilic structure that gives them a high affinity for polar solvent gases. Alcohols with a small volume and a linear structure are preferentially sorbed, suggesting that the steric effects and apolar solvation effects of alkyl groups of alcohols are crucial for organic gas sorption of these films.
