The fracturing of single crystal quartz at hydrothermal conditions was investigated in order to advance the utilizations of enhanced geothermal systems and other applications of earth's crust studies. Results of in-situ observations by visible-type autoclave show no changes at "dry" conditions. Fracturing was recognized with quartz crystal quenched by chilled water droplets in "wet" conditions. Fracturing was accelerated in the presence of water. We refer to this fracturing enhancement at hydrothermal conditions as Hydrothermally-Derived Fracturing (HDF). When the HDF mechanism becomes clear, it can be applied, for instance, to develop the enhanced deep-seated hydrothermal reservoirs, to understand mineral vain formation.
