The authors would like to express their thanks to the the project “Study on the erosion process and the measures for protecting the Hoi-An beaches from erosion” for measurement data in Cua Dai beach. We also woulde like to thanks project “Research, evaluate and propose solutions to prevent rip currents in Ha Tinh beaches” ID: VAST.NĐP.01/16-17 for financial support. N2 - Analysis of historical near shore bathymetric changes of Cua Dai beach indicates that the flood, wave and current patterns in conjunction with tidal level primarily control the shoreline retreat in the studied zone. The Delft3D model was used to simulate these processes including flood, wave, circulation models, sediment transport and morphology change. First, the Delft3D model was applied to the formation of sand terrace at the river mouth with laboratory experiments data in order to investigate the performance of the model. Secondly, the model was applied to the Cua Dai river mouth at the Thu Bon River, Hoi An city, Quang Nam Province, Viet Nam. The formation of sand bar and terrace at the Cua Dai river mouth in flood season was reproduced. The computed result showed qualitatively agreement with field site observation.
