Novel Y2O3microspheres for minimally invasive and local radiotherapy of cancer

The use of a novel Y2O3 microshperes for minimally invasive and radiotherapy of cancer was discussed. A high-frequency induction thermal plasma flame was used to fabricate microspheres 20-30 μm in diameter, consisting of cubic Y2O3 crystalline grains 2 μm in size. It was found that the microspheres showed a higher chemical durability than YAS glass in saline solutions buffered at pH = 6 and 7. It was also found by the animal experiments using activated Y2O3 microspheres that the microspheres significantly suppressed the growth of VX2 tumor transplanted in rabbit liver.
