Novel nanostructure and deformation behavior in rapidly quenched Cu- (Zr or Hf)-Ti alloys

The structure of the rapidly quenched Cu60(Zr or Hf) 30Ti10 alloys was evaluated using x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The compressive deformation behavior was also investigated in the Cu 60Zr30Ti10 bulk alloy in as-cast and primary devitrified states. The structural identification for nanocrystalline particles was examined by nanobeam electron diffraction (NBD) with the beam diameter of approximately 2.4 nm. It was concluded that the improvement of mechanical strength is attributed to the unique primary transformation reaction with the existence of two kind of nanocrystalline phases in the alloy.
