The formation of an icosahedral phase in rapidly solidified Hf₆₅Au_17.5Ni₁₀Al_7.5 and Hf₆₅Au_17.5Cu₁₀Al_7.5 alloys. These chemical compositions are close to that of the Hf-Pd-Ni-Al alloy. These alloys exhibit a multistage devitrification behavior upon heating with the formation of an icosahedral phase of faceted, nearly spherical morphology, at the first stage.
