N2 - Tokyo Institute of Technology We discovered morphological change (MC) in thin films when film thickness was less than 100 nm. A block copolymer of poly (styrene-block-isoprene)(SI), which exhibits cylindrical microdomain structure in a state of a bulk, formed cylinders that lay parallel to the film surface in thin films when film thickness match the hexagonal lattice of cylinders in a state of a bulk. And other side it formed spheres when film thickness mismatch the hexagonal lattice. In this case, we observed the MC from cylinders to sphere. We speculate that the distortion of hexagonal lattice of PI cylinders just before MC will drive internal microdomain of PI in thin films and will transform to spherical microdomain structures.
