Model experiments on underground imaging from a bored hole by ultrasound

抄録

The experimental results for seting up of a system to visualize stones in sand saturated with underground water, using the ultrasonic pulse echo technique, are described. 1) The speed of sound, 2) transmission efficiency, 3) directivity and 4) sound attenuation, are measured. It is shown that the profile of the surface of a small stone, about 30 mm in size placed in the sand several centimeters away from the wall of a bored hole can be detected by a 1 MHz ultrasound.
