The identification of the impact force location and history is important for the health monitoring of structures. In order to identify the impact force acting on structures, the chapter proposes an identification method based on the lower-order vibration modes. The measurement method of modal displacements using strain sensors is also studied in detail. To construct the more efficient modal sensors, the location of the strain sensors is optimized using the minimization criterion of observation spillover. The measured modal displacements can be used to identify the impact force location and history. Numerical and experimental results of an aluminum plate attached with strain gages are employed to illustrate the effectiveness of the identification technique, using the modal sensors.
