抄録

Mesocentrotus nudus recruit on crustose coralline algae (CCA) and migrate to kelp beds toward maturation at > 1-year old. They prefer large kelps, which promote their somatic and gonadal growth. High juvenile recruitment due to high water temperature during larval period and subsequent formation of kelp beds due to low water temperature in winter results in an increase in the population size and enhance the production, leading to an increase in commercial landings. Ocean warming and overgrazing of dense M. nudus population have been decreasing the kelp beds in the Sea of Japan coasts in Hokkaido and in the Pacific Coasts off Tohoku.
