Magnetotransport properties of submicron exchange coupled Fe19Ni81/NiO wires

Magnetization reversal processes of the Fe19Ni81/NiO exchange-coupled bilayers cut into submicron scale wires with a variable width in the range from 0.5 to 10 μm were studied by analyzing the anisotropy magnetoresistance and the planar Hall effect. The demagnetization process determined form the anisotropy magnetoresistance exhibited the stepwise reversal, indicating the presence of oppositely exchange coupled regions. The size effect on the exchange coupling field was observed when the wire is finer than 1 μm. The large planar Hall effect of 25% was found to occur at room temperature in the Hall cross 0.5 μm in width due to the nucleation of the inclined domain wall.
