Itinerant-electron metamagnetism and onset of weak ferromagnetism in laves phase Y(Co1-xGax)2 compounds

In Y(Co1-xGax)2 quasi-binary compounds, the metamagnetic transition magnetic field becomes lower with increasing x, and the weak itinerant-electron ferromagnetic state is established in analogy with Y(Co1-xAlx)2. The magnetic moment and the Curie temperature are smaller than those of Y(Co 1-xAlx)2. On the other hand, no evidence of onset of the ferromagnetic state was confirmed in Y(Co 1-xSix)2 compounds with below x=0.15. The difference in the lattice expansion depending on the substitutional elements brings about the difference in the 3d-band narrowing and the onset of ferromagnetic state.
