Investigation of children health problems in relation to indoor environmental factors in Japan Part 2: Influencing factors of allergic symptoms from a case-control study

In order to clarify relationship between adverse health effect and indoor environmental factors, an epidemiology type of survey has been investigated to the 4th and 5th grade school students in Japan. The survey contained of three phases: The first phase was a survey of the prevalence of adverse health problems, among children, while the second and third phases were case-control study and field measurement of the case-control study respectively. This paper described the results obtained from the questionnaire survey of a case-control study. In particular, the features of the home environment and children health problems were shown and the association between health problems and influencing factors were discussed through a single-regression analysis. This survey revealed the ratio of children allergic symptoms in Japan and the possibility of the association between adverse health effect and indoor environmental factors such as dampness in buildings.
