The possibility of controlling the oxidizing processes in a steelmaking bath with the addition of pulverized fuel in various amounts to the oxidizing blast was investigated. The rate of carbon oxidation and bath temperature during blowing depend on the consumption of carbonaceous dust in the blast. The optimum proportion of fuel was found to be 0. 2-0. 3. When the consumption of coal dust was further increased, the rate of decarburization of the melt was greatly reduced. The rate of solution of solid carbon in the steel increases with an increase in the rate of stirring and with a reduction in particle size. Details are given of the variation in the rate of decarburization and in the temperature of the melt during the blow with different injection practices and proportions of fuel in the blast.
