The improvement of antiferromagnetic exchange coupling J in antiferromagnetic coupling (AFC) media by introduction of oxygen during deposition of Ru layer was performed. The thermal stability factor was also increased in the same manner from 91 to 106. The proposed method was found to be effective in increasing the thermal stability of AFC media with a conventional structure through the improvement of J.
