The ferroelectric switching time of a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride has been shown to depend not only on the strength of the applied electric field but also on the history of the previous polarization process. For example, as the waiting time between two electric field pulses (waiting time tw) becomes longer, the speed of polarization reversal becomes longer (this characteristic is called imprint). We consider that the defects in the crystals of copolymer affect the switching time a. The permittivity of the sample changes as the defects in the copolymer are generated. In this study, we measured the permittivity in order to estimate the amount of the defects, and we investigated the relation between the permittivity and the switching time.
