N2 - This paper discusses a method for identifying an impact force acting on a CFRP stiffened panel. The location and force history of the impact force are identified using the sound radiation from the impacted panel. More specifically, sound pressures measured at multiple locations with microphones are used. The impact location is identified from the arrival times of the sound wave, and then force history identification is performed using experimental transfer matrices which relate the impact force and the measured sound pressures. The force history is identified by minimizing the deviation between the measured sound pressures and the sound pressures estimated from the experimental transfer matrices. Impact force identification of a CFRP stiffened panel is performed experimentally, and the validity of the method is verified by comparing the identification results with the measured location and force history.
